11/02/02 Night Flight with My Best Friend - My best friend Julie came to visit me in Dubuque. Tonight I took her for a local night flight and both of us had a blast.

11/17/02 Cross-Country and Young Eagles Flight - I flew north for the afternoon and met my parents and 7th-grade cousin Holly for lunch. I took Holly for a Young Eagles ride, which I believe was only her second flight ever. We circled her house and watched people wave at us. I let her fly me around. Oh, the look on her face!! It's too bad I didn't bring a camera (I wanted one several times today!). I left at sunset and had a peaceful night flight home. It was a great day. 30-degree air made for nice performance, it was smooth at crusing altitude, and I even got to fly over some clouds. I logged 3.3 hours total. I have now flown three Young Eagles. 

11/20/02 Instrument Rating Stalled - By my own choosing, my instrument training is going nowhere at the moment. There is just too much going on with school and the weather has mostly been bad. I don't feel that I have enough time or ambition to get that final chunk of studying out of the way in order to pass my stage check and checkride. I know I could pass the flight portion, but I'm not so sure I could recite all the numbers in the oral portion. So I'm not allowing myself to take the stage check until I can really devote the amount of time to this that it deserves. There is no rush to get my rating, because once I have it, it won't be very useful to me at this time of year. I am concentrating on trying to get a 4.0 GPA and flying has taken a back seat for now. Either I will get my rating sometime in the weeks before semester break or I will stay in town a little bit over break to accomplish the testing. I know I said a long time ago that I'd have my rating soon... well, oops! :-)
