12/8/06 A Ride in a Cirrus SR22 GTS - I rode in the back seat of a brand-new SR22 GTS today during a demo flight out of Green Bay. Oh boy. I hadn't flown in a Cirrus since May of last year. It was the first time I sat in the back seat of one, and my first Cirrus flight without my former instructor Thom. But I was still excited like a little kid and loved it. I couldn't help but smile and be amazed. I have become so used to the Cessna 172 that I forgot what a "real airplane" is like, nevertheless a technologically-advanced one. I thought I had flushed my Cirrus hopes and dreams out of my system. Nope. It's like an old flame that refuses to die. I still want to get involved, and I found out that I only have a little more work to do before the opportunity comes within reach. Meanwhile, today's flight was a fun experience and a welcome break from the norm.

12/27/06 Night Cross-Country - I did a night cross-country with a student tonight. The planned route: Brennand to Milwaukee Timmerman to Watertown and back. On the way back we added a stop at Fond du Lac to escape the lowering virga and re-check the weather. We made it home fine at a lower altitude. I got 2.3 hours of night cross-country, something I don't get to do very often.

12/31/06 Reflections on 2006 - Here it is, the end of another year. 2006 was a year where I ventured into the unknown several times. My favorite accomplishments are flying to Sun 'N Fun, ferrying an Ercoupe to Montana, and ferrying a Cessna 172 to Illinois with an ILS approach at the end. I also soloed my first student this year followed by six more. My favorite new airplanes were the Cessna Citation, an Evektor SportStar, and a King Air. I logged about 340 hours this year.

My aviation-related plans for 2007? Gain more students, fly more often, and figure out a way to afford a multi-engine rating. A couple more ferry trips would be interesting, as would another trip to Sun 'N Fun. Going on some kind of big trip again is one of my main goals.
