4/9/03 I'll Miss Oshkosh - Today I found out that the funding for the internship I had last summer wasn't renewed. That means that I won't have the full-time job of working at Pioneer Airport this summer as I had tentatively planned. I'll miss it a lot, but I will still volunteer there on the weekends like I used to. This will be my fifth year there and I don't plan to stop anytime soon! I plan to stay in Dubuque this summer (for the first time) unless something else comes up. It's about a three-and-a-half-hour drive to Oshkosh, so I'm not sure how often I'll be there. I'll catch up on flying here though, so that will be good! 4/26/03 Pioneer Airport Volunteer Training, Champ Flight - I spent six hours at the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh today for annual Pioneer Airport volunteer training. It was great to see my "Oshkosh family" again! Afterwards, my airline pilot friend Mike flew with me in a plane I thought I'd never see again: an Aeronca Champ that I hadn't flown since August of 2000. It was grounded for a long time while it got a new engine, interior, and paint job. All I can say now is that it is GORGEOUS! (I really regretted not having a camera!) The flight was fun, too. Ah, taildraggers and sticks, you can't beat 'em! What a fun little airplane. 4/28/03 Hanging in There - The semester is almost over and I know it will only be a matter of time before I start flying regularly again. This has been a difficult semester! I never thought flying would take a back seat to everything like it did. I overloaded myself with classes, and it didn't help that I was recently very sick for three weeks straight! (No, it wasn't SARS, thankfully...) Final exams are the second week of May, and after that I hope to fly a lot. I will be taking two summer courses until the end of May, including multiengine ground school. For now, I'm struggling through life without much of my favorite drug: altitude.
