Impromptu Wildlife Survey!

I saw something today that I definitely don’t see every day: hundreds of migrating swans gathered on a marsh west of Manitowoc. I later found out this place is called Collins Marsh. I was flying one of Jet Air’s Cessna 152s to Sheboygan.

Hard to tell by the picture, but all the white specks were swans… I could see their long necks!

An Appleton Post-Crescent article by Rob Zimmer later in the month mentioned the swans:

For the past several weeks, tundra swans have been gathering by the hundreds at Collins Marsh Wildlife Area, south of Reedsville. The parking area across from the nature center on County Highway J offers the best viewing of swans, ducks, geese and sandhill cranes that use the marsh during autumn migration.
